Vacations can be a lot of fun or they can be a frustrating nightmare. Often the difference between the two is how well you planned your trip. While it is entirely possible to just pick up and go, and many people do just this, most people will find their trip a lot more enjoyable if they do some planning ahead of time. It isn’t necessary to plan all the spontaneity out of your trip, but a little advance planning can save you a lot of hassles.

The first thing you are going to need to do when you are planning a vacation is decide on a budget. It’s all well and good to plan the perfect vacation but if you can’t afford it you won’t be going. Determining your budget will allow you to decide where you want to go and how long you can stay. It is also important that your budget include the activities that you would expect to do when you get to your destination. It would be silly to plan a trip to a ski resort and budget the cost of transportation and accommodation only to get there and discover that you can’t afford to actually ski.

Once you know how much you can afford to spend you are going to need to decide where you want to go. This is going to require some research on your part. There are no shortage of vacation destinations to choose from, narrowing down your choices can be tricky. Use the internet, ask friends about vacations they have enjoyed, read some travel guides, there are lots of sources of information on vacation spots. Once you know where you want to go you are going to need to make sure that it fits into your budget.

The next step to planning a vacation is to actually make the arrangements. You will need to decide how you plan to get there and where you plan to stay. Again there are lots of options available and you will need to make choices that fit in with your budget. The internet can be a huge help here, booking airline tickets and hotel rooms online has become commonplace. It is a great way to make sure you are getting the best possible price.

When planning your vacation you need to make sure that you make plans to look after your home while you are gone. Things like canceling the newspaper and finding someplace for the dog to stay while you are away are important parts of planning your trip. You will also likely need somebody to stop by your house occasionally to pick up the mail and water the plants, probably even mow the lawn if you plan to be away for a while. What you want to avoid is giving the appearance that nobody is home.

If you’re planning a getaway for you and your better half, whether you’re newlyweds or you’re celebrating your golden anniversary, it’s important to know the best spots in Tahiti. These islands can even be the perfect backdrop for the wedding itself.

The Overwater Bungalows have traditional thatched roofs and native furnishings which let you and your spouse get in touch with nature. You can also take a peek at the mysterious world underwater through their glass coffee tables. These bungalows are equipped with modern amenities so you really don’t need to rough it out.

If you don’t want to be right in the middle of the sea, you can also sign up for accommodations in Moorea. According to The Destination Wedding Weblog, this Tahitian island is only a very short boat ride from the airport. Despite the wide array of honeymoon packages you can find online for this island, it’s still “off the beaten path”. The beaches are nothing short of pristine, and you can enjoy the other landscapes as well. The food is exquisite, and couples can take advantage of Polynesian spas.

A more popular choice would probably be Bora Bora. This island retains its secluded aura despite its world-wide fame. Overwater bungalows are also available for honeymoon packages in this island, and you can also dine in one of their restaurants overlooking the lagoon. Dolphin swims, shark feeding and jeep tours are also available for more adventurous couples.

If you’re a big fan of vanilla, you might want to visit Tahiti’s Vanilla Island as well. More formally called Huahine, this island still cultivated vanilla. The scent of the spice mingles with the night breeze, and those who want to enjoy the Pacific’s calm waters and lagoons would certainly have the time of their lives here. You can enjoy fishing and long beach walks on this island.

The Ice Hotel in Sweden was first built in 1980, and it has been rebuilt every year after that. Yes, that’s right, if you want accommodations at a building whose lifespan only runs for an entire season, then you should book a room at the Ice Hotel in Sweden. You can also keep on coming back every year after that and you can be sure that you’re never coming back to the same hotel.

The Ice Hotel is located just 120 miles north of the Artic Circle (and high up enough to see the Northern Lights). The extremely cold weather makes it possible for the igloo-like structure to stand as it is. If it seems like a bizarre way for you to spend your vacation time, it is. A lot of people visit the hotel just for the novelty of it. Of course, most of them come here to admire the craftsmanship of those who built and rebuilt it.

If you think you need to rough it out should you choose to stay here, you’re not quite right. The Ice Hotel features a lot of high end rooms, including a multimedia hall. It also has a sauna for those who wish to warm up their mittens, and of course, an ice chapel, for couples who would want an authentic wedding.

Those who decide to stay in the guest rooms of the Ice Hotel itself will be given reindeer skin blankets. Beaver nylon full jumpsuits will also be issued per guests since the furnishings and beds are pretty much carved out of ice.

If you want to admire the 53,700 foot structure but you’re not quite ready to immerse yourself into too much cold, you can also rent a heated cabin near the Ice Hotel instead. Heated bathrooms for those who will be staying in the hotel are also built nearby.
